Qatar Re has announced the appointment of Manik Kak as senior executive officer, Tejal Bartlett as regional head of energy, and Manik Sethi as regional head of marine. All three are based in Qatar Re's branch office in the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC), which is regulated by the Dubai Financial Services Authority. 

Together with Qatar Re's local team of experienced underwriting professionals, they will further strengthen the company's facultative underwriting capabilities in the fast growing Middle Eastern and Asian insurance markets.

Kak succeeds Nabih Massaad, who will transfer to Qatar Re's Zurich branch to head the underwriting of engineering treaty globally and engineering facultative for business not underwritten out of the DIFC.

Kak joined Qatar Re in June 2016 as senior executive officer of its branch office in the DIFC with responsibility for overseeing the underwriting, risk management, and compliance of the branch and expanding its operations in the region. 

Kak joins Qatar Re from Zurich Insurance Company where he held the role of chief underwriting officer. He is a renowned and seasoned underwriter who has spent most of his career in the region. 

He began his career in 2004 with Tata AIG in India as an executive for property and energy insurance before moving on to Qatar Insurance Company as a senior commercial underwriter, based in Doha. 

In 2009, he joined Zurich Insurance Company in Dubai to head the company's regional property, engineering, construction, and marine business in various functions. Kak holds an MBA from the Birla Institute of Management Technology and a Bachelor in Civil Engineering, and is a fellow of the Insurance Institute of India. 

Bartlett assumed her role as regional head of Energy in May 2016, joining from Zurich Global Corporate Middle East where she held the position of head of Global Energy and expert underwriter for Onshore Energy for the EMEA region. 

Bartlett started her career at Liberty Mutual before moving to ACE European Group where she last held the position of onshore energy manager. She is a qualified associate from the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII) in London and holds a bachelor's degree in financial services from the London Guildhall University.

Sethi joined Qatar Re in May 2016 as regional head of marine. Prior to joining Qatar Re, he held the positions of underwriting manager for marine lines at Zurich Global Corporate Middle East and marine underwriter at Royal & Sun Alliance. Sethi is a qualified associate from the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII) in London and has a Master's degree in commerce and finance from Mumbai University.
