The Tunisian Company of Electricity and Gas (STEG) has signed trade agreements with Algeria to get 100 megawatts to be used in case of increased demand during the season of peak consumption, said CEO of STEG Amer Bashir.

Speaking at a press conference in the Rades power and gas plant, he stressed that the maximum consumption will reach 3,900 megawatt against 3,594 megawatts because of rising temperatures.

The official did not rule out the possibility of resorting to voluntary power cuts that last a few minutes to preserve the network, noting that peak forecasts are based on temperatures reaching 40 degrees.

He said that the use of voluntary power cut is in force in all countries, adding that this does not concern important and sovereign institutions and will not be applied in the same area.
