RIYADH, 18th March, 2017 (WAM) -- The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Secretary-General Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani strongly condemned the statement which was made last Tuesday by the Swiss representative before the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC), slamming the accusations and distortions regarding the situation of human rights in the Kingdom of Bahrain.

"The GCC member states reject categorically the allegations cited in the Swiss statement, which disregarded Bahrains dedicated efforts to protect human rights in compliance with the international standards and national legislations,"he said.

In a statement today, he said that the GCC states look forward to seeing the Swiss Government reconsider its allegations and rethink its repeated discrediting of Bahrain before the (UNHRC).

The GCC Secretary-General called upon the Swiss Government to obtain information regarding human rights from credible, not suspicious sources.

"Such stances, which are categorically rejected by the GCC states, do not help develop relations between the two sides," Dr. Al Zayani said.
