DUBAI, 18th July, 2017 (WAM) -- H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and UAE Minister of Finance, and patron of the Al Maktoum Foundation, has donated AED600,000 to support the students' fund at the United Arab Emirates University, UAEU.

Mirza Al Sayegh, Member of the Board of Trustees of the Al Maktoum Foundation, presented the donation cheque to Professor Mohamed Albaili, Vice Chancellor of UAEU.

Al Sayegh conveyed the greetings of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid to the UAEU council and management, highlighting the importance of the university as one of the largest institutions of higher education in the country. He affirmed Sheikh Hamdans keenness to allocate financial contributions to the University to meet the needs of its students and encourage them to successfully complete their academic endeavours.

Al Sayegh pointed out that many institutions of higher education attach importance to supporting their students and ensuring they continue their educational journey successfully, whether by establishing a fund or by organising programmes and scientific trips abroad. These approaches enhance student skills, enable them to learn more about new cultures, and strengthen their capabilities as part of the wise leadership's focus on education as a pillar of the UAE's continuous development and future, he added.

Albaili thanked Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid for this generous initiative that underlined the great role that the Al Maktoum Foundation plays in supporting university students.
