Directorate of Control and Consumer Protection ensures commodity price stability in coordination with UAE Ministry of Economy

UAE – The Department of Economic Development – Ajman’s (DED – Ajman) Directorate Control and Consumer Protection recently met with representatives of local chain of supermarkets to discuss guidelines for commodity price regulations during the upcoming month of Ramadan. During the meeting, all parties agreed to cooperate and coordinate with the UAE Ministry of Economy to ensure the implementation of the best practices, protection of consumer rights, and the strengthening of the stability of the consumer market during the holy month. The meeting was attended by representatives of major outlets in the Emirate of Ajman, including LuLu Hypermarket, Choithram, Ramez Center, Al Ain Markets, Carrefour, Al Safeer Hypermarket, Spinneys, Maya Group, and Manama.

Mohammed Al Kutbi, Director of Control and Consumer Protection, DED – Ajman, emphasized the importance of meeting by outlining a clear mechanism to meet the local market needs of basic commodities, while ensuring stable prices without any unjustified increase. He stated that the move is a way of establishing a real and fruitful partnership with supermarket chains in Ajman in close cooperation with the UAE Ministry of Economy.

Al Kutbi pointed out that the department continues to make tireless efforts to achieve a balance between consumers and traders rights in line with its objective of building a prosperous economy for the welfare of the residents of Ajman. He said that the intensification of regulatory and supervisory efforts to secure consumer markets and the fight against commercial fraud, especially for the ongoing preparations for the reception of the holy month, will ensure optimum satisfaction of consumers and their happiness.

“We take our responsibility in tightening the controls of Ajman’s consumer markets in order to reduce price volatility during the holy month. We are confident of our move to adjust the price in coordination with local sales outlets which have shown full commitment to ensure consumer happiness through the launch of a series of promotions that will boost commercial activity and, in turn, reflect positively on the competitive price.
