BEIRUT- The Lebanese government postponed until Thursday discussion of new taxes to fund a public sector pay rise and hopes its next meeting will decide on a commensurate draft tax law, the information minister said.

The Lebanese constitutional council last week annulled a tax law designed to finance the promised pay rise, over which many workers have gone on strike.

Information Minister Melhem Riachy, in a statement emailed by the prime minister's office, said a government meeting on Tuesday had achieved "very great progress" and talks would continue on Thursday in a meeting to be chaired by President Michel Aoun.
