UAE, Dubai:

In coordination with the Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP), the UAE has officially announced its joining to “Nursing Now” campaign. The campaign runs in collaboration with the Intentional Council of Nurses (ICN) and the World Health Organization (WHO).

It aims at strengthening the profile and status of nursing around the globe, through supporting nursing professionals and recognizing their contribution to achieving healthcare objectives, and working on accomplishing the global campaign “Nursing Now”. 

“Nursing Now” is a three-year global campaign (2018 – 2020), and comes in conjunction with the 200th upcoming birthday anniversary of Florence Nightingale, founder of modern nursing.

“Nursing Now” National Committee in UAE has announced the official launch of the campaign at the national level. That came during an event organized by MoHAP in Dubai, in the presence of H.E. Dr. Salem Al Darmaki, Advisor to the UAE Minister of Health and Prevention, the support of H.E. Dr. Youssif Al Serkal, Assistant Undersecretary for the Ministry’s Hospitals Sector and the attendance of Dr. Sumaya Mohammed Abbas, Director of the Nursing Department, Dr. ArwaOwais, WHO’s Regional Office Representative, Emirates Nursing Association, a number of healthcare and nursing specialists, research experts in UAE, academic partners and healthcare service providers at government level.

The Leading UAE Experience in Nursing Profession

H.E. Dr. Youssif Al Serkal, Assistant Undersecretary for the Ministry’s Hospitals Sector, said” “UAE is one of the first countries to join the global campaign “Nursing Now” in order to foster the nursing position in developing health policies and to invest in nursing professionals to take healthcare leadership positions, in addition to shedding light on the capabilities of the nursing national professionals in the international campaigns.”

Dr. Al Serkal highlighted the leading UAE experience in terms of launching national initiatives and programmes to promote the attraction of the nursing profession and speed up its Emiratisation phases, and link it to the National Agenda Indicators 2021, through performance standards and operational plans in accordance with the latest global practices and standards.

The Assistant Undersecretary for the Ministry’s Hospitals Sector noted that UAE joining to “Nursing Now” campaign represents a new momentum to consolidate the best innovation standards in nursing practices and to build the effective partnerships with an aim of reinforcing the reputation of the nursing profession at the community level. This comes within the context of MoHAP’s strategy aiming to deliver comprehensive and integrated healthcare in innovative and sustainable ways that ensure the prevention of society from diseases.

“The dynamic needs of the healthcare in the 21st century have created a chance for nurses and midwives to further contribute to developing the future healthcare strategies, in parallel with the focus on nursing role in preventive health factors, promotion of public health for society and better utilization of technology,” added Dr. Al Serkal.

Underlining Nursing Role in Health Coverage

For her part, Dr. Sumaya Abbas said: “The global campaign “Nursing Now” aims to improve health by raising the profile and status of nursing and midwifery worldwide. Furthermore, Nursing Now aims to highlight the nursing and midwifery professionals’ prominent role in achieving Universal Health Coverage.”

Director of the Nursing Department explained that MoHAP, through Nursing Now campaign, sheds light on the significant position of the nursing professional at the national health policies level and the growing expertise of UAE in nursing sector, in accordance with the continuing training, information technology, and research, the matter that contributes to strengthening healthcare services.

She pointed out that the aim of forming a national committee for Nursing Now campaign, which comprises government and private health authorities and universities, is to unify efforts and garner support to achieve campaign’s objectives, through the launching of several activities and initiatives and monitoring its implementation.

This will contribute to empowering the nursing professionals and providing an attractive work environment for them, in addition to attracting competencies, in accordance with the new and operational nursing strategic plan 2018 – 2021, and achieving communication and interaction with nursing leaders worldwide, besides knowledge exchange, with a view to achieving advances effective partnerships, in accordance with the best standards of performance and excellence.
