Dubai: Known for attracting the most influential individuals in areas of digital media, entrepreneurship, automation, and fundraising, STEP 2019 returns to Dubai Internet City with exciting challenges, a brand new STEP Show, and Porsche’s Concept Study Mission E regional premiere.

Bringing the future of automotive technology right to the footsteps of STEP conference-goers, the all-electric Porsche Concept Study Mission E sports car, which embodies the vision of e-mobility, will be showcased for the first time in the Middle East. Also to be featured at the 2019 STEP conference is the Volkswagen Mobility Challenge, which seeks to attract young entrepreneurs to find solutions for mobility problems facing people every day, part of STEP’s goal of fostering an environment of innovative solutions in the autonomous space. The winning team will be awarded a three-day trip to the Volkswagen Innovation Workshop hub in Berlin, Germany.

This year, STEP conference will also host the first edition of a live STEP Show that will take place on February 13th on the STEP Start stage. Through an intimate, fun, and informal setting, our host Sinan Khatib, will interview Emirati figure skater, Zahra Lari and Wamda Capital Executive Chairman Fadi Ghandour who recently launched Wamda X. The grant-based fellowship program, Wamda X, provides fellows the right environment to help them build their startups and have unprecedented access to Wamda’s network.

While some challenges and activities are new to STEP Conference 2019, the Visa Fintech Village returns this year to the STEP Money stage. This initiative invites a select number of Fintech startups to exhibit and gives them the opportunity to connect with other startups, Fintech corporates and investors.

Also returning to the STEP conference is the VC-Startup debate where representatives of VCs and startups debate issues like valuation, funding, accountability and board roles. This year’s debate will be moderated by Mohamed Hamdy, Head of Future Platforms at Dubai Future Foundation. Representing the VC side will be Sharif El-Badawi from 500 Startups and Khaled Talhouni from Wamda Capital, while Mona Ataya of Mumzworld, Jeremy Crane, CEO of Yellow Door Energy and Rami Salman from Voicea will take the stage to represent the startup side.

In addition to the numerous UAE and regional startups participating at STEP 2019, the conference will also include participants from around the world who are interested in entering the MENA market including Singapore, Russia, USA, Hong Kong, Slovenia, India and Belgium.
