Abu Dhabi – The Ministry of State for Federal National Council Affairs (MFNCA) held its regular coordination meeting with the FNC’s General Secretariat to discuss several joint projects and future plans that seek to promote political participation among the members of the community.

The meeting was attended by FNC Secretary-General H.E. Ahmed Shabib Al Dhaheri; and H.E. Dr Said Mohammed Al Ghafli, Assistant Undersecretary for FNC Affairs at the MFNCA; along with a number of senior officials, department managers and team leaders from both entities.

The meeting also explored new approaches to increase awareness of the Federal National Council’s role in serving the country and the interest of all citizens, showcasing the preparations underway ahead of the fourth ordinary session for the 16th legislative chapter. These preparations seek to support the general directives of the UAE Government to meet the aspirations of its citizens, and motivate them to take part in decision-making and sustainable development.

H.E. Ahmed Shabib Al Dhaheri, FNC Secretary-General, started the discussion by stating that the meeting had discussed ways to enhance collaboration between the two sides, improve communications, coordinate procedures, organise operations and develop cooperation in order to achieve optimal results, and implement the vision of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, to empower the Council to tackle national issues, while also encouraging citizens to contribute to the decision-making process.

“These coordination meetings with the Ministry of State for Federal National Council Affairs reflect both entities’ commitment to coordinating their activities to achieve the strategic goals and objectives of promoting political participation, raising awareness of the Council’s role and mandate, and familiarising citizens with the rapidly developing political life in the UAE – most notably under the Political Empowerment Programme launched by H.H. the UAE President in 2005,” H.E. added.

The FNC Secretary-General went on to explain that the Council is in the process of implementing the parliamentary strategy 2016-2020, whereby it strives to ensure outstanding parliamentary performance. With that in mind, the Council adopted a legislative and control plan that facilitates the discussion of various issues of interest for the country and its citizens, while keeping in pace with the UAE’s push towards innovation and the future industry.

H.E. Al Dhaheri expressed his appreciation to the Ministry of State for FNC Affairs for the crucial role it plays in strengthening cooperation between the executive and legislative branches of the UAE Government, in keeping with the leadership’s vision to encourage full cooperation between the Government and the Federal National Council to the benefit of the UAE’s people.

Assistant Undersecretary for FNC Affairs at the MFNCA, H.E. Dr Saeed Al Ghafli conveyed the gratitude of H.E. Abdulrahman bin Mohammed Al Owais, Minister of State for FNC Affairs, to the Council’s staff, headed by Her Excellency Dr Amal Abdullah Al Qubaisi, Speaker of the Federal National Council, and the FNC Secretary-General, for their efforts during the previous legislative chapter. H.E. Al Ghafli commended their unwavering dedication to showcasing the Federal National Council’s role in serving the country and its citizen, thanking the General Secretariat’s staff for their efforts to develop effective channels of communication and cooperation with the Government.

“During the meeting, we discussed innovative proposals and ideas that support the Ministry’s efforts to promote political participation among members of society of all segments, introducing them to the Political Empowerment Programme of H.H. Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE,” H.E. Al Ghafli said. “We also discussed ways to improve operations and cooperation in the future, as well as means to raise awareness of the Council’s role in serving the UAE and its people, and the preparations underway for the opening of the fourth ordinary session for the 16th legislative chapter.”

The Assistant Undersecretary stressed the importance of partnership and complementarity among various state institutions, describing it as the bedrock for implementing the leadership’s vision for building the future. “By holding these periodic meetings with representatives of the FNC’s General Secretariat, we reiterate our commitment to discussing future plans, considering all points of view to formulate and launch innovative initiatives that strengthen relationships between the Government and the Federal National Council, drawing on international best practice in this area, and steadily developing parliamentary life in the UAE,” he said.

H.E. Dr Al Ghafli added: “We, at the Ministry of State for Federal National Council Affairs, strive to provide support to the Council and its committees, by procuring data from all Government institutions in the UAE. This bolsters coordination with the Council, ensuring the presence of officials in its meetings to directly discuss issues of interest to the UAE and its citizens, and, as a result, strengthening its status as a platform for the people’s aspirations.”

The meeting reflects the dedication on the part of the Ministry of State for Federal National Council Affairs periodically convene and coordinate with the FNC, in order to facilitate procedures, organise processes, and develop joint plans of action to achieve the Ministry’s strategic objectives.
