Dubai: As part of the UAE Year of Tolerance initiatives, the Family Health Promotion Center of the Primary Health Care Department at the Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP) organized comprehensive medical examinations program for the inmates of the Correctional and Punitive Establishments, Prisons Department, Sharjah.

The program is part of the smart check-up “E-Itmenan” and includes all men and women from various nationalities and religions with a view to bolstering the community involvement and humanitarian practices.

Dr. Haifa Fares, Director of MoHAP’s Primary Health Care Program Section, said that the ministry has launched E-Itmenan earlier in 2017 as part of its efforts to develop the National Strategy for the Control of Non-Communicable Diseases (2017 – 2021), and MoHAP’s strategy to promote healthy lifestyle for the UAE society, as well as to reduce chronic diseases, such as cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, cancer and respiratory system disease in accordance with the national agenda indicators.

In turn, Dr. Amira Saif Al Khaja, Director of the Primary Health Care Department, Sharjah, said that such type of initiatives has a humanitarian and preventive aspect. She noted that the initiative is being carried out with the support of Science Tribune Company, Belgium, adding that the medical team consisted of doctors, nurses, and technicians, and headed by Dr. Azza Al Kendy, Director of the Family Health Promotion Center.

Dr. Al Khaja pointed to the benefits of the smart application to detect diseases in early stages, thus the treatment would be easier, lower-cost and more efficient, in addition to the possibility of sorting patients into groups, the matter which allows the selection of the ideal treatment.

These preventive examinations are supporting the healthcare services, which the Correctional and Punitive Establishments, Prisons Department, Sharjah is keen to provide, in accordance with the approved standards.
