Dubai, United Arab Emirates – Honeywell (NYSE: HON), a leader in connected airports, has been selected by Ethiopian Airports as the sole provider of low-voltage terminal-side solutions for Addis Ababa Bole International Airport. The contract award is part of a major airport expansion project that aims to bring new levels of comfort, efficiency and security to the growing number of passengers travelling through the East Africa region each year.
Under the engagement, Honeywell will provide a range of hardware and software-based systems aimed at harnessing the power of the Internet of Things (IoT) and helping to streamline operations by connecting new and existing security, fire, access control and CCTV systems across the airport’s existing Terminal 2 and soon-to-be completed Terminal 2 expansion. The suite of technologies seeks to enable terminal building operators to more proactively monitor and manage risks, reduce the impact of localized alerts on wider airport operations, and obtain a broader view of airport security to promote efficient operations and a smoother, more secure passenger experience.
The project work includes the installation of Honeywell Enterprise Buildings Integrator (EBI), an award-winning building management system that integrates security, comfort, life-safety and energy control systems, providing airport operators with a single point of access and consistent view of information and resources so they can more easily monitor, manage and protect the airport and its occupants.

Bole International Airport is one of the largest and busiest airports in Africa. In addition to being the global hub for Ethiopian Airlines— Africa’s largest airline with a large fleet of modern, advanced aircraft including the Boeing 787 Dreamliner — it is also the home of the Ethiopian Aviation Academy, one of the world’s top aviation training centers. The expansion project at Bole International will enable the airport to handle up to 25 million passengers per annum, almost triple its current capacity.
