DUBAI: Major General Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri, Commander-in-Chief of the Dubai Police, has said that hosting Expo 2020 Dubai holds great economic and cultural importance, and is an advantage from for tourism, as well.

He further noted that the Expo will strengthen the capacity of the UAE and Dubai to host international events because of its integrated infrastructure which meets international specifications. In addition, Dubai already offers world standard public facilities, shopping centres, means of communication and high quality transport, along with its proficiency in hosting large sports and economic exhibitions, conferences and activities, he added.

The Major General Abdullah Al Marri,was speaking while heading the meeting of the Security Team in charge of preparing for hosting Expo 2020, which was held upon the directive of H.H. Lt. General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior.

He stressed the importance of working as an integrated team which includes professional security to preserve the advantages and reputation achieved by the UAE in all fields, and co-operation and co-ordination between all bodies for the success of this international event. Expo 2020 is an added credit to the UAE, which excelled in securing several international events, which were all successful.

Major General Al Marri and the members who were present were briefed by Najeeb Al Ali, Executive Director of Expo 2020 Dubai Bureau, on an integrated explanation about Expo and its importance to the UAE, and the role which it will play over the course of history in strengthening the sustainable development efforts and stimulating the tourism-related interest areas and cultural exchanges between the countries.

Al Ali noted that Expo 2020 Dubai, through its main theme "Connecting Minds, Creating the Future", and its three sub-themes "Opportunity, Mobility and Sustainability", supports the achievement of the sustainable development goals for the year 2030. He affirmed that the UAE succeeded in accomplishing many of the projects related to sustainability, and new and renewable energy projects, as some 50% of the energy to be used for Expo 2020 will be delivered through renewable energy.

The Executive Director of Expo 2020 Dubai Bureau also demonstrated the opportunities provided by the Exposition, pointing out that the UAE succeeded in attracting many international companies through providing a favourable work environment, as some 180 countries will participate in Expo 2020, and the Exposition will receive some 25 million visitors from October 2020 to April 2021.

Following the meeting, the Security Board participated in a field trip to assure there will be adequate arrangements for hosting Expo Universal Exposition 2020. The team inspected the construction work of Expo’s facilities and reviewed the infrastructure of the Exposition and its structures.
