MANAMA: Neuroscience Association of Bahrain Medical Society announced the formation of “Bahrain League against Epilepsy” chaired by Dr. Adel AL Jeshi. The league aims to coordinate national efforts to shed light on Epilepsy in the kingdom of Bahrain and improve its medical services provided for patients.

President of Neuroscience Association Dr. Fatima Abdulla, Canadian Board of Neuroscience and Canadian Fellowship in Epilepsy and EEG, explained that the aim of the league is to provide accurate statistics on the number of epilepsy patients in Bahrain, disaggregate them by age and disease status, conduct more studies and research based on the statistics, follow the latest therapeutic methods around the world, spreading awareness and prevention of epilepsy, and cooperation with various similar leagues in the region and the world to ensure the quality of medical services provided to patients with epilepsy in Bahrain.

“Bahrain’s membership was accepted in the International Union against Epilepsy after voting by the Member States of the International Conference against Epilepsy in Bangkok, Thailand recently. Most Arab countries, especially the Gulf States, have long been members of this union. I was mandated as a member of the Executive Board of the Middle East in collaboration with the International Federation against Epilepsy, which has undertaken to facilitate and develop health services worldwide” Said Dr. Fatima.

For his part, Dr. Mohamed Bin Falah, vice president of Neuroscience Association, stressed the importance of forming the league at a time that Epilepsy is now a pressing public health issue.

“Improving treatment for epilepsy patients reduces the health and social consequences of the disease, improve patients’ chances of better education and employment, and promote their integration into society and benefit from them as healthy, productive individuals.” Said Dr. Mohammed.
