Dubai, UAE - Al Naboodah Group Enterprises (ANGE), one of UAE's oldest and most respected family conglomerates with a diverse portfolio of businesses, wrapped up comprehensive Occupational Health & Safety activities last week.

The week-long employee engagement initiative, aimed at creating awareness and educating the work force on best practice in occupational health & safety, brought Civil Defense, Dubai Police, the Aster Health Bus and a range of specialists together with ANGE employees to advise them on a range of topics from mental health and wellbeing to fire safety.

Robert Munn, ANGE General Manager SHEQ Shared Service, said,  “Worker welfare is a key commitment of ANGE’s sustainability roadmap and initiating educational and awareness raising programs such as these supports the work of our leadership across the board aimed at protecting employees and ensuring they learn about international best practice in health and safety standards at all our sites.”

The event took place across all ANGE offices, projects, yards and workshops with a theme for every day of the week, and involved many campaigns, presentations and workshops—ending with a family day at the Al Naboodah HQ on Thursday.

Munn added, “With over 16,000 employees from 47 nationalities, ANGE is proud and protective of its workforce. Investing in their welfare with educational programs and demonstrations is one of many ways we seek to ensure their health and wellbeing and contributes to why Al Naboodah Group Enterprise was voted the UAE’s happiest working environment for 2017 by the Ministry of Human Resources & Emiratisation.”

Gareth Main, Al Naboodah Construction Group HSE Manager, said, “Across the globe millions die every year as the result of occupational accidents or work-related diseases–more than 2.3 million deaths per year. In addition, hundreds of millions are injured on the job annually, often resulting in lost work time. At ANGE we invest in our workforce as a matter of prevention. Collaborating with international firms such as IPAF who gave demonstrations on working at height safely, to talks by leading NLP practitioner, Linda Bonner and including bringing the Emirates Civil Defense Academy to give presentations on fire safety, the week was a great success and will contribute to the health, safety and welfare of all our employees.”

Fatima Al Naboodah, ANGE General Manager Sustainability, said, “Our strategy of investing in the growth and development of our workforce and fostering a happy workplace culture is a matter of sustainability for ANGE. We want to be the UAE’s employer of choice and we currently offer over 150 training courses to employees in order to upgrade their skills and improve their prospects.”

ANGE's Occupational Health & Safety Week seeks to engage employees across the entire Group, from headquarters to showrooms, onsite project teams and the labour workforce, on how best to stay safe and avoid accidents in the workplace. Every day, employees participated in a choice of health and safety focused activities ranging from workshops, health checks, demonstrations and awareness sessions by external partners.

The activities focused on key themes identified as most important for the company: Working at Height; Mental Health & Stress Prevention; Occupational Health Day; Road Safety; Nutrition and Exercise, and rounding up the week was the Family Day with fun activities for all the family.
