11 new coronavirus cases recorded in Jordan as 3 discharged from hospital

AMMAN — Jordan recorded 11 new cases of COVID-19 among people entering the Kingdom from abroad on Saturday, with no infections reported among the general public.

The new patients include a Jordanian citizen who had arrived to the Kingdom from Dubai and 10 truck drivers who tested positive at the Al Omari border crossing, among them five Jordanians and five Arab nationals, according to a statement issued by the Prime Ministry and the Ministry of Health.

Ten new COVID-19 cases were recorded in Jordan on Friday, among them six people who contracted the virus from the truck driver in Mafraq Governorate who tested positive for the virus earlier in the month, including three in Zarqa, two in Irbid and one in Mafraq, according to a Health Ministry statement issued on Friday.

Four truck drivers were also confirmed to be infected at the Al Omari border crossing between Jordan and Saudi Arabia, including two Jordanians and two Arab nationals who were sent back to their countries.

As of Saturday, the Kingdom’s total caseload stands at 607.

Three patients were discharged from Prince Hamzeh Hospital on Saturday and eight were discharged on Friday, leaving 132 patients currently receiving treatment at hospitals, of whom 54 are at Prince Abdullah University Hospital, 50 at Prince Hamzah Hospital and 28 at Queen Alia Hospital.

A total of 3,993 coronavirus tests were conducted on Saturday and nearly 4,500 tests were conducted on Friday, bringing the total number of COVID-19 tests conducted nationwide since the beginning of the crisis to 140,222.

The statement added that flights bringing home Jordanian students and citizens stranded abroad have continued to operate for the second day in a row, within the second stage of the return plan, while the details of the third stage, which will include new countries, will be announced during the coming days.

All the returnees, including those who have been previously infected with COVID-19, will be admitted to quarantine sites.

Regarding the complaints and inquiries related to the procedures for the return of Jordanians from abroad, the statement invited citizens to visit the online window that was created by the National Centre for Security and Crisis Management, as the specialised team will receive complaints and transfer them to the relevant authorities.
