MANAMA: Bahrain’s national origin exports for the fourth quarter of 2020 amounted to BD599 million, increasing by 12 per cent from BD532m in the same period of 2019, shows the latest report from the Information and eGovernment Authority (iGA).

The top 10 trading partners accounted for 72pc of the value of national origin exports last month with the remaining 28pc claimed by other countries, says the report which also includes data on balance of trade, imports and re-exports (national origin).

Saudi Arabia ranked first among countries receiving Bahraini exports of national origin, importing BD127m from Bahrain.

Meanwhile, the United States was second with BD52m and the UAE third with BD51m.

Unwrought aluminum alloys emerged as the top product exported during the quarter with BD106m.

Agglomerated iron ores and concentrates alloyed was second with a value of BD71m and unwrought aluminum (not alloyed) third with BD57m.

The report found that the value of re-exports decreased by 28pc to BD157m during the quarter when compared with BD220m for the same period of the previous year, with the top 10 trading partners accounting for 83pc of the re-exported value.

The UAE was the leading market for re-exports from Bahrain accounting for a value of BD48m, followed by Saudi Arabia with BD43m and the US coming third with BD10m.

Four-wheel drive cars emerged as the top product re-exported from Bahrain with a value of BD29m, followed by agglomerated iron ores and concentrates in second place netting BD10m and parts for airplanes in third place with BD7m.

The report said value of imports decreased by 7pc to BD1.191 billion during the quarter compared with BD1.282bn for the same quarter in the previous year with the top 10 trading partners accounting for 69pc of the imports value.

According to the report, China was ranked as the top exporter to Bahrain with BD166m, followed by Saudi Arabia with BD96m and Australia in third place with BD87m.

Aluminium oxide emerged as the top product imported into Bahrain with a value of BD89m while non-agglomerated iron ores and concentrates was second at BD68m and four-wheel drive cars in third place with BD52m.

The trade balance, or the difference between exports and imports, amounted to a deficit of BD435m during the fourth quarter of 2020, an improvement of 22pc when compared with BD530m for the same quarter of 2019.
