• The department of neurology provides care to patients with diseases of the brain, spinal cord, peripheral nerves
  • Technology is at the core of Aster Hospitals’ operations allowing for accurate diagnosis and the ongoing treatment of neurological diseases
  • Having more doctors specialising in neurology and neurosurgery is therefore important as the population will continue to increase and age

Dubai, United Arab Emirates – Aster Hospitals recently announced the appointment of Dr. Rajshekher Garikapati, Neurology Specialist at the hospital’s facility in Mankhool. This appointment is in line with Aster Hospital’s strategy that aims at providing optimum healthcare services to its patients to meet their utmost needs.

Dr. Rajshekhar has more than 20 years of experience between major hospitals in India and the United Arab Emirates. He has received specialist training in the practice of neurology at the Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences in Hyderabad, India.

He is currently spearheading the implementation of Neuromuscular Ultrasound and Ultrasound -guided procedures at Aster Hospital, Mankhool. Neuromuscular ultrasound is a great new addition as a tool for diagnosing nerve problems; it is painless and can be repeated any number of times. It gives visual information, complementing the traditional nerve study which gives functional information. Many procedures can be performed on nerves and muscles under ultrasound guidance, making them safe and more effective. With distinct advantages over MRI, Neuromuscular Ultrasound can be performed where other tests cannot - for example, in an injured arm, or where surgery has recently been performed or in pregnant women and in infants and small children who would not cooperate for a nerve conduction study.

In addition, Dr. Rajshekhar’s experience is focused on treating acute stroke with clot-buster therapy, as well as cerebral venous thrombosis. He has a decade of experience in the UAE, during which he specialised in the treatment of myriad neurological conditions including Alzheimer disease, Parkinson disease, Multiple Sclerosis, various dystonias, as well as spasticity.

Dr. Sherbaz Bichu, CEO, Aster Hospitals, UAE said, “We are delighted to welcome Dr. Rajshekher Garikapati to the Aster Hospitals, Mankhool family. Dr. Rajshekhar brings over 20 years of clinical experience in neurology, and his appointment further cements our leadership position in providing a comprehensive care model to our patients. Having more doctors specialising in neurology and neurosurgery is therefore important as the local population will continue to increase and age.”

Aster Hospital Mankhool focuses on a broad range of neurological diseases including headaches, epilepsy, vertigo, stroke, memory disturbances, neuropathy, Parkinson’s disease amongst other illnesses.

Dr. Rajshekhar is a member of various professional neurological organizations, including the Indian Association of Neurology, Neurological Society of India and American Academy of Neurology.
