The ministries of local development and housing are to launch 10 new drainage networks to serve about 225,000 citizens in New Valley, Assiut, and Beheira governorates.
As part of the first phase of the presidential initiative Decent Life, Minister of Local Development Mahmoud Shaarawy and Minister of Housing Assem El-Gazzar attended on Sunday the signing of two cooperation protocols to establish the projects.
Shaarwy said under the new protocols, the ministry will build five drainage networks in Assiut, one in Beheira, and five in New Valley governorate.
He added that the government aims to complete the Decent Life initiatives first phase as soon as possible to enhance the living standards of the low-income families in poor villages and give them access to basic services, in addition to providing job opportunities for them.
The Minister of Local Development also asserted the need to coordinate with the Holding Company for Water and Wastewater (HCWW) in order to provide homes with water connections as soon as completing the networks.
The HCWW would finish the designs of the new networks, in addition to contract companies specialised in this field, explaining the need to finish the networks within six months at most, in light of the directives of Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly in this regard.
For his part, the Minister of Housing has also ordered the National Authority for Potable Water and Sewage to quickly provide the required funds to start implementing the projects and to finish them before 30 June.
