BAHRAIN’S oldest private hospital is set to expand into training and research, as it aims to complete its latest project in A’ali by the end of next year.

Once completed, the ambitious twin-hospital complex by the American Mission Hospital (AMH), on a deal with the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI) Bahrain, will be the first private healthcare facility to house training and research in the field.

The GDN reported last November that the project, named after His Majesty King Hamad, has been credited to become the first eco-friendly facility in Bahrain after signing a $1 million agreement to install a solar system on its premises.

The hospital has also signed an agreement with UAE’s Energy Management Services-Emirates Company (EMS) in Energy Value Study (EVS) for the new state-of-the-art hospital, which will locally be supported by consultants Mohammed Jalal and Sons group.

“The hospital, once completed, will enter into a tie-up with the RCSI Bahrain to conduct training and research and will be the first private hospital to do that,” a representative from AMH told the GDN yesterday.

Agreement

“Meanwhile, we have also entered into an agreement with UAE-based EMS on EVS, which is an evaluation of the infrastructure for its Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing (MEP) components by a third party.

“This will make a great impact on the energy consumption at the facility, as the study will analyse ways to reduce or optimise energy consumption.

“It will also cut costs on the infrastructure and EVS is very critical for every country to optimise its energy consumption.

“As announced earlier we have the plan to install solar panels on the premises, which is about sustainable energy, while the EVS if the current infrastructure being evaluated for energy consumption.”

The GDN reported in April that the hospital complex planned next to Ramli Mall will be built in two phases, the first consists of a maternity and children’s hospital and the second a 100-bed multi-speciality hospital.

Covering nearly 30,000sqm, it will include single-roomed intensive care units, an imaging centre, infertility centre, 300-seat auditorium for meetings and conferences, a special needs children’s development assessment and treatment centre and 400 parking slots.

As part of the solar system deal signed in November with Solartecc Green Energy Factory, the project is expected to generate 1MW of power.

“The new premises will be the biggest private hospital complex scheduled to complete by 2022,” said AMH chief executive Dr George Cheriyan.

“The impact on the environment must be taken into consideration based on sustainability aspects of future generations and should be eco-friendly.

“By initiating (the EVS) study AMH is aiming to achieve LEED certification and leadership in energy efficiency.”

Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) is an internationally-recognised green building certification system, providing third-party verification that a building or community was designed and built using strategies aimed at improving performance across all the metrics that matter most such as energy saving, water efficiency, CO2 emissions reduction, improved indoor environmental quality, and stewardship of resources and sensitivity to their impacts.

The A’ali hospital will be AMH’s fifth location in Bahrain, after Manama, Saar, Amwaj and Riffa.
