Muscat: Over 200 fishermen from various governorates of Oman have benefited from the fishermen's village in Al Wusta Governorate.

"The Fishermen’s Village in Ras Madrakah and Al Khalaf Coast in the Wilayat of Duqm is one of the successful models of the Ministry of Agricultural and Fisheries and Water Resources, represented by the Fisheries Wealth Department in Al Wusta Governorate to support Omani fishermen from all governorates of the Sultanate," Oman News Agency (ONA), said in a statement.

Saleh bin Salem Al Sunaidi, Chairman of the Fisheries Resources Development and Extension Department in Al Wusta Governorate, said that the project of the fishermen's village in Ras Madrakah and Al Khalaf coast was well received by citizens and those interested in the fishing sector because of the benefits it provided to Omani fishermen from the Governorates of South Al Sharqiyah, North and South Al Batinah.

Al Sunaidi explained that the aim of the project is to increase fish production, provide high-quality fish in local markets, increase the income of Omani fishermen working in the fishing sector, and encourage the people of Al Wusta Governorate to practice the fishing.

"The number of beneficiaries from the fishermen's village project in Ras Madrakah is 50 artisanal fishermen who own boats in the Al Wusta Governorate, 250 artisanal fishermen who are practicing the fishing profession coming from the Governorates of South Al Sharqiyah, North and South Al Batinah, and 25 owners of vehicles that transport and market live aquatic produce," Al Sunaidi added.
