Success Stories Highlight Careers UAE Support of Emiratisation

Dubai, United Arab Emirates: Delivering real results to UAE nationals in search of rewarding vocations, Careers UAE is successfully facilitating the integration of Emirati talent into both the public and private sectors in the UAE. Now in its 15th year and taking place from 28 - 30 April at Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC), the show is well established as the UAE's leading recruitment, training and education exhibition for UAE nationals, and has assisted in the process of identifying perfect job matches for skilled Emirati candidates, facilitating successful recruitment, career progression and the long-term retention of Emiratis in the workforce.

As the country transitions to a knowledge-based economy supportive of world-class finance, ICT, healthcare and education, the development of Emirati nationals is a key government priority, imperative to the successful accomplishment of the ambitious UAE Vision 2021, which aims to increase the current number of UAE nationals working in the private sector tenfold by the year 2021.

According to the National HR and Employment Authority (TANMIA), 200,000 UAE nationals are expected to join the country's workforce over the next decade. In Dubai, for example, the Emirates Nationals Development Programme (ENDP) has announced plans to lower the number of national job seekers to less than one percent by 2021. Through ENDP's efforts, 13,000 nationals have been successfully employed in the private sector to-date, lowering Dubai's Emirati unemployment rate from 10.7 percent in 2005 to 2.6 percent in 2014.

A key platform for Emiratisation, Careers UAE 2015 engages with private and public organisations of all sectors and sizes, providing UAE nationals of various levels of skills expertise with an opportunity to build a better understanding of the diverse and rewarding careers available in a wide range of industries. Job seekers are presented with unparalleled opportunities and direct access to key HR and management decision makers - opportunities that would otherwise not be readily available to candidates on a regular basis.

Having secured successful placement with Jumeirah Restaurant Group through Careers UAE, Hamda Al Abbar, Marketing Communications Manager, urges her fellow Emiratis to attend the show in April: "Careers UAE is a great opportunity for all UAE nationals, showcasing a wide variety of companies and allowing visitors to explore numerous career options based on their specialty and field, regardless of their position or work experience. Specifically offering rare opportunities to fresh graduates, the exhibition gives employment-seeking candidates the option to explore several career choices, supporting them with counselling and guidance through their career decision making process.

"My introduction to the national graduate programme at Careers UAE helped jumpstart my career with Jumeirah Group and I am now the Marketing Communications Manager of Jumeirah Restaurants Group, continuously growing and heading towards my career objectives due to the massive support received from Jumeirah Group and Careers UAE."

The latest Bayt.com MENA Job Index survey conducted by Bayt.com, the Middle East's leading job site, and YouGov, an international research and consulting organisation, illustrates a positive hiring outlook for candidates seeking employment, particularly those looking for junior to mid-level positions in the private sector in the UAE. Out of the companies surveyed, 36 percent revealed that they would definitely be hiring talent in the next three months, and 68 percent confirmed that they would either be 'definitely' or 'probably' hiring in a year's time.

Hassan Habib, Finance Manager, Al Futtaim Automotive group and a proactive candidate at last year's show, shares his success story: "My experience with Careers UAE has been a fruitful one as I was recruited to join Al-Futtaim Automotive group by attending the event in 2014. Careers UAE serves as a one-stop-shop for candidates seeking a challenging career opportunity, as well as for companies seeking National talent. It is a win-win environment for both. The event fosters a results-oriented atmosphere where focused candidates are successful in leveraging the opportunity for career development and employers attract qualified Emirati talent at various levels to their organisations. Careers UAE is a unique platform for professionals at all levels and I would highly recommend attending to my peers who are seeking the next step in their career development."

Also a success story for Careers UAE, Marwan Al Marri, secured his current position of Commercial Manager at Emirates Group after visiting the show: "Whether you're a technical graduate, aviation enthusiast, IT expert or passionate about the arts, Careers UAE has something for everyone. It is the ideal platform for Emirati job seekers to explore a variety of options in a dynamic environment.

"Having gone through the experience myself, I know that job seekers may feel exasperated thinking they'll probably be just another applicant. But I was that applicant, and today I'm filling a position of a Commercial Manager in the Emirates Group. My advice to job seekers is to always keep an open mind when they're looking for opportunities.  It's rarely what you think it'll be and open doors are everywhere if you look carefully. Don't shy away; ask questions and asses job opportunities from more than one angle."

Over 160 exhibitors are already confirmed for Careers UAE 2015 with numerous opportunities for successful recruitment across a multitude of industry sectors including aviation, education, energy, engineering, financial services, hospitality, retail and technology. More than 18,000 visitors and prospective job applicants are expected to attend.

"With my mind set out as a fresh graduate to seek potential employment through a job that suits my degree in Architecture, I discovered that I can serve the UAE Nation and fulfill my passion in life by joining Dubai Air Navigation Services (DANS) to become an Air Traffic Control Officer. While at the UAE Career Fair, I learned about the unique career opportunities that are being offered as part of the National Development Program in DANS which I have successfully joined, and I'm currently training to become a licensed Air Traffic Control Officer." added Narjis Sajwani, Air Traffic Control Officer-Trainee, Dubai Air Navigation Services.
