Iraq has agreed to award four sewage projects in the capital Baghdad to Chinese companies, the capital's governor was quoted on Wednesday as saying.

The Baghdad Governorate and the Planning Ministry have agreed to award four sewage projects as well as other services projects in the capital to Chinese firms, Mohammed Al-Atta told the official daily Alsabah.

He said the sewage projects are located in Abu Ghareeb, Al-Nahrawan, Al-Wahda and Sab Al-Boor areas in Baghdad.

"There is an agreement to award these projects and some services projects in Baghdad to Chinese companies," Atta said without providing further details.

Iraq and China signed a deal in 2019 allowing Baghdad to pay in oil for projects executed by Chinese firms in the OPEC member.
