Dubai: Further entities and businessmen pledged support to building a new heart center in Egypt as part of the Arab Hope Maker’s Humanitarian Cause of the Year.

The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), Lulu Group, Sawiris Foundation for Social Development and UAE business magnate Mishal Kanoo will make a financial contribution to support the Magdi Yacoub Global Heart Center in Egypt that will provide free-of-charge cardiac care and open-heart surgeries to the region’s disadvantaged families, especially children, unable to afford treatment.

Contributions complement the Arab Hope Makers grand show’s proceeds that will be allocated to support building the Magdi Yacoub Global Heart Center in Egypt.

Details of the contributions will be announced at final grand show, scheduled to take place at Coca-Cola Arena, City Walk, on February 20, 2020.

The new center will conduct 12,000 heart surgeries annually, of which 70 per cent will target children, and will receive over 80,000 patients annually.

It will expand access to a world-class treatment among vulnerable communities through a fully-equipped facility with the latest research and surgical technologies and qualified medical cadres. The new facility will provide free-of-charge cardiovascular care to patients across the Arab world.

New horizons

His Excellency Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD and CEO of DEWA, said, “the Arab Hope Makers initiative opened new horizons for the humanitarian sector across the region through highlighting inspiring role models from the Arab world who dedicate their lives to serving humanity. Supporting the Magdi Yacoub Global Heart Center forms a new phase of expanding the Arab humanitarian scene to involve research and development in vital fields like the healthcare. DEWA’s contribution to these noble efforts reflects the core of our Corporate Social Responsibility strategy that aims to improve vital sectors in the region and support positive initiatives to shape a better future.”

The economic growth must be aligned with the progress of charitable work. We are pleased to take part in bringing hope to millions of lives and contributing to advancing the healthcare sector in the Arab world.”
