Diyar Al Muharraq, the largest real estate development company in Bahrain, recently participated in the fifth instalment of the Bahrain Smart Cities Summit, emerging as a platinum sponsor.

In light of the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, this year’s summit commenced on April 7 virtually under the theme of Redefining Smart Cities.

The Bahrain Smart Cities Summit is a leading event bringing light to the importance of how smart technology and infrastructure impacts and benefits businesses in the real estate, transport, communications, and technology sectors.

It will comprise a series of talks throughout the year leading up to their annual event, scheduled to be held on October 10 to 11.

The summit aims to ultimately provide a platform for discourse to develop sustainable solutions collaboratively.

The active participation of Diyar Al Muharraq comes as part of its commitment to further drive corporate environmental responsibility within the kingdom’s real estate industry, encouraging more sustainable practices through knowledge sharing in the industry via active discussions between leading industry players.

Moreover, sponsoring the event comes in line with the strategic vision of Diyar Al Muharraq to create a sustainable future for its residents and Bahrain, which is aligned with the sustainable development goals of the country.

The first panel discussion of the 2021 summit, which outlined the importance of sustainable urban development, was moderated by Waleed Khalaf, who steered the active discussion between the panelists, Diyar Al Muharraq CEO Engineer Ahmed Alammadi, UN Habitat Programme Management Officer Naomi Hoogervorst and Bahrain Society of Engineers VP Mohamed Ali AlKhozaaee.

The points of discussion highlighted the importance of a holistic approach to sustainable development when building cities, or even smaller scale development projects.

The panellists concurred that consideration must be made for environmental, economic, as well as social impact in projects no matter their scale.

Furthermore, the importance of initiating discourse with governing bodies for the betterment of the development sector as a whole was of great importance, leading by example wherever possible, for a more sustainable future.

Ali Alammadi said: "We are delighted to participate in the Bahrain Smart Cities Summit as platinum sponsors, and as peers in a shared vision to better the real estate development sector in Bahrain for a brighter socio – economic future through implementing sustainable initiatives."

"Sustainability is a core pillar in the development of the Diyar Al Muharraq masterplan, and is factored into every aspect of the integrated city from an environmental, social, and economic standpoint," he stated.

Alongside a unique blend of commercial, recreational, and healthcare facilities; Diyar Al Muharraq comprises one of the largest integrated residential developments in Bahrain, aiming to preserve the family values of the Bahraini society and offer a variety of housing solutions suitable for a modern lifestyle.

Fully equipped with facilities catering to the everyday needs of its residents through the provision of facilities including mosques, parks, shopping malls, hotels, schools, and universities.

"From planning to infrastructure and even technology, sustainable and green solutions have been implemented throughout the masterplan of Diyar Al Muharraq and its various projects," noted Ali Alammadi.

"Ultimately, we have ensured that the city’s output is beneficial to residents, investors, and the Bahrain in its entirety. We look forward to continuing to deliver on our promise to provide a fully integrated mixed use and futuristic model city," he added.-TradeArabia News Service
