UAE – The Sharjah International Airport has welcomed around 5.5 million passengers in the first five months of 2019, up 15% from 4.8 million passengers in the year-ago period, AlKhaleej Newspaper reported.

The volume of air cargo grew by 23.4% year-on-year in the five-month period to 68,426 tonnes from 55,467 tonnes.

The airport handled 34,600 tonnes of freights since the beginning of the year until May, growing 7.3% from 32,231 tonnes in the same four-month period of 2018.

The airport has been successful in forming new partnerships in the freight field, registering a 20% growth as compared with 2018.
