Over the past year, KAPITA and Asiacell, Iraq’s leading telecommunication operator and digital services provider, have built a strong partnership together. Asiacell has continuously been the primary supporter of KAPITA’s various programs, initiatives, and events aiming to support the Iraqi youth and start-ups in 2020 and beyond, along with strengthening the Iraqi private sector. Asiacell has always been at the forefront of supporting entrepreneurial initiatives, focusing on young Iraqi talents to lead national business fronts.

Asiacell supported KAPITA’s successful ScaleUp Academy acceleration program, where eight Iraqi start-ups participated in this program which was executed by the German government through the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH: “Information and Communication Technology (ICT) for Youth in Iraq” project in 2020. Asiacell was KAPITA’s strategic partner in that initiative by providing extensive assistance, facilitating the program and securing exceptional services to support the participating businesses throughout their  journey. Asiacell expressed fulfilment for ScaleUp Academy’s progress and stated that it is the first professional accelerator programme in Iraq.

With the full support of Asiacell, KAPITA also successfully launched the first Orange Corners programme in Baghdad, an initiative by the Kingdom of the Netherlands, that invests its vast international expertise to support Iraqi entrepreneurs. Asiacell tremendously helped the participating businesses in that program by offering the required knowledge and mentorship to scale up and grow their existing start-ups. Asiacell’s experienced staff members delivered mentorship and gave training sessions to the participants.

Throughout the phenomenally successful partnership between KAPITA and Asiacell in 2020, Asiacell has agreed to continue supporting KAPITA in carrying on its strategic partnership for 2021, whilst flourishing Asiacell’s support for start-ups, entrepreneurship, youth and the economy of Iraq. Asiacell will be pleased to support KAPITA’s new initiatives and programs that will be rolled out in 2021 by reinforcing entrepreneurship and the provision of significant support to the Iraqi economy during the current challenging times.

Mujahed Waisi, chief executive officer of KAPITA, has stated: “This strategic partnership is essential as it allows us to continuously support and develop the private sector in Iraq through supporting SMEs and start-ups”.

Mr Abdullah Hassan, the integrated marketing communications director and official spokesperson of Asiacell, commented: “Throughout 2020, the experience we had with KAPITA through our strategic partnership reflected positively on the entrepreneurial scene as well as the growing private sector in Iraq. At Asiacell, we believe that supporting start-ups and SMEs is a major part of our corporate social responsibility to support and strengthen the private sector by youth empowerment; encouraging youth towards establishing their own business and create their jobs instead of finding them.”.

KAPITA is a private sector development company that strives to empower small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) through investment, research, incubation/acceleration, and market development programs.
