Dubai, UAE : As the UAE gears up for its golden jubilee celebrations, Dubai’s e-hailing taxi service, Hala, is looking back on the remarkable journey of the nation’s transport sector. Hala is honoring the past 50 years by creating a special edition newsletter to showcase the proud history of transportation and shedding light on the UAE’s bold aspirations that promise to shape the future of mobility.

The UAE is home to an intricate public transportation system which includes taxis, water taxis, a driverless metro system, a tram system and a monorail. While residents enjoy seamless transportation and mobility today, in the early days there were only a few vehicles and even fewer roads.

Hala has invited citizens, expatriates and tourists to ride through time in this newsletter which chronicles the first public transport bus in 1968 and the evolution of license plates amongst other milestones, as well as unveiling some of the city’s hidden gems.

Basil Hovakeemian, CEO of Hala said, “In celebration of the UAE’s 50th National Day, we wanted to reflect on some of the biggest transformations seen in the country’s transportation industry and how far it has come. Rooted in humble beginnings, the UAE has evolved tremendously over the last five decades. Whether you’re a tourist, expat or citizen, we know that this has been as much your journey as it has been ours, and as one of the youngest members of the transportation industry, we wanted to take you on a trip down memory lane.  We make no apologies for feeling nostalgic – the journey of this country is a journey like no other, and as you flip through the newsletter we hope it brings a smile to your face, as it has to ours. While we continue to chart the way to our next destination, we’re proud of the journey we’ve made so far and excited about what the future has to offer.”

The special edition newsletter will be distributed across the city, from November 29th till December 5th.
