Dubai, UAE: Emirates District Cooling (Emicool) LLC, a leading district cooling service provider in the region and a wholly owned subsidiary of Dubai Investments, has announced the completion of its state-of-the-art District Cooling Plant (DCP) at Dubai’s Expo 2020. The Phase 1 of the plant will provide chilled water-cooling solutions to areas within the event, specifically at the RTA station, Conference & Exhibition Centre, and the EXPO village.

The plant has been designed to provide a total production capacity of 60,000 tons of refrigeration (TRs) across two phases, with the first phase of the plant currently operational and providing around 20,000 TR. The plant has been uniquely designed to operate using direct Treated Sewage Effluent (TSE) feed, which provides better discharge quality and ensures a more sustainable approach to water-cooling mechanisms.

The DCP at Expo 2020 is testament to our vision; it uses innovative technologies to streamline and optimize the water-cooling process and will contribute to the well-being of guests and personnel at the renowned Dubai Expo 2020 event.”

The DCP is located in the Expo 2020’s Opportunity wing adjacent to the Opportunity Sub Station. Its design follows a modern concept that embodies Emicool’s vision while upholding to the Expo 2020’s unique design philosophy and its core theme of sustainability. Moving away from a standard plant façade, the DCP’s design incorporates special architectural elements without compromising the plant’s technical requirements. It maintains the highest international standards and the criteria for sustainable green buildings and modern urban development. The project was already selected as the 2020 National Award winner for the MEED Awards due to its unique engineering and value-add.

Emicool is progressing steadily towards its digital transformation goals and seeks to sustain this momentum in the long-run through its other unique initiatives, like the first Unmanned Machinery Space (UMS) Plant completed in 2020, which uses Artificial Intelligence SMART Systems.

Emicool’s provision of district cooling services at the Dubai Expo 2020 demonstrates the strength of Dubai Investments’ ecosystem of companies and its wider commitment to contribute to the success of the large-scale event.
