Sharjah: The Republic of Chechen put together a series of cultural activities reflecting the diverse culture of the country, as part of “The World Heritage Weeks Programme.” The event is being held under the patronage of Dr Abdulaziz Al Musallam, Chairman of the Sharjah Institute for Heritage (SIH) and Daaev Khoz-Baudi, Minister of Culture of the Chechen Republic, Baitaziev Muslim, Minister of Tourism of the Chechen Republic, Milkiev Rustam, First Deputy Minister of Culture and Akhmatkhanov Anzor, Troupe Manager.

 The event takes place at the Cultural Heritage Center “Al Bait Al Gharbi,” from January 19-23, welcoming visitors to a unique experience into Chechen’s culture, customs and traditions.

Popularly known for its vast history, the event provides visitors an insight into the various elements that best represent Chechen’s heritage, folk arts, music and ancient civilization.

An annual event, “The World Heritage Week,” was launched under the directives of His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan Bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah as part of Sharjah Institute for Heritage’s activities, to showcase the heritage and culture of countries across the world whilst providing a platform for the exchange of local and international experiences.

HE Dr Abdulaziz Al Musallam, Chairman of the Sharjah Institute for Heritage said, “Hosting programmes of this nature, helps us provide a platform that allows individuals to experience what truly defines a particular country or region. Our goal is to provide visitors an opportunity to immerse themselves into everything that forms the essence of a country, and walk away yearning to learn more about the same.”

Daaev Khoz-Baudi, Minister of Culture of the Chechen Republic said, “It’s an absolute honour to be provided with a platform to showcase what best defines the uniqueness of Chechens culture. During the course of the event, we’ve had the opportunity to educate everyone eager to learn more about our heritage. We are extremely grateful to Sharjah Institute of Heritage, to provide us with this avenue which also further helped strengthen our relations with them.”

Some of the activities organized for the event include exhibitions showcasing the country’s traditional garments and artifacts.

Visitors can also enjoy the opportunity to taste Chechen’s authentic local cuisine, and learn to create beautiful pieces of art using woods, stone and plaster. Two days of the event are dedicated to providing lectures highlighting the culture, customs and traditions of the Chechen people and providing visitors with a peek into the history and arts of Chechen Republic.

Through the World Heritage Week, the Sharjah Institute for Heritage imparts an important message regarding the need to exchange knowledge and experiences that could help preserve and further each country’s heritage.
