KUWAIT CITY: The shrimp fishing season begins today, Sunday, Aug 1, after months of ban on shrimp fishing which is based on law to protect fish wealth, economic resources and strategic reserves, reports Al-Anba daily.

The Public Authority for Agricultural Affairs and Fish Resources (PAAAFR) has completed preparations in this regard, while the head of the Fishermen’s Union, Daher Al-Suwayan, has called for the return of fish auction at the Souk Sharq and Fahaheel fish market. He lamented saying half of the fishing fleet remained anchored because of shortage of fishermen.

He stressed the fishing sector is facing an unprecedented crisis which requires quick solutions.
