Proposal to amend Bahrain's Insurance Against Unemployment Law

Under the proposal Shura Council members, MPs and ministers shall pay one per cent of their monthly allowance in favour of the Unemployment Insurance Fund

MANAMA: Parliament public utilities and environment affairs committee chairman Hamad Al Kooheji has submitted a proposal to amend Insurance Against Unemployment Law.

Under the proposed new article to be included in the law, Shura Council members, MPs and ministers shall pay one per cent of their monthly allowance in favour of the Unemployment Insurance Fund. “The amendment aims to implement a constitutional principle stipulating that all citizens are equal before the law. They have equal public rights and duties,” said Mr Al Kooheji.

Imposing the 1pc deduction on low-income people and all public and private sector employees, while exempting another category can’t be justified under any pretext, he added.
