Work on revamping causeway 17 on Umm Al Saad Highway in South Sitra has reached 35 per cent.

The foundation and casting components for the main parts of the first bridge have been completed while reclamation work is nearing completion.

The Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning Ministry expects the infrastructure project to be completed by the last quarter of 2021.Roads projects and maintenance director Sayyed Bader Alawi said that the current bridge would be replaced with two new ones and a lane added in each direction.

“The first two-lane bridge will take the traffic to the northeast towards Sheikh Jaber Al Ahmad Al Sabah Street, while the second is in the southwest direction for those heading towards Bandar Al Dar,” he said.

The project is part of a series of road development schemes in connection with the expansion of the Bapco refinery.
