Egis, an international group involved in construction, engineering and mobility services, has appointed Alaa Abu Siam as the new executive director for its Middle East business division.

Siam took up the new role last month after his successful tenure as Chief Operating Officer for the Middle East region for more than a year where he demonstrated his outstanding capabilities in the fields of project implementation and delivery.

With a 1,200-strong workforce in the Middle East region, Egis has an outstanding growth potential. Over the period from 2014 to 2019, the groups proportion of turnover generated in the Middle East rose from 4% to 14% following several major rail project wins such as Riyadh Metro and Doha Metro, and the acquisition of Projacs, a leading project management firm in the Middle East.

Group CEO Laurent Germain said: "We are delighted with the promotion of Siam, who is a seasoned leader with extensive international experience across multiple industries."

"Thanks to his deep understanding of the Middle East, he is well positioned to lead Egis in the region with the goal of overseeing the growth and development of the groups offering across all services we provide, and to expand on our mission to positively impact the future of clients and communities in which we serve."

Siam has more than 20 years experience in engineering, growth management, business transformation and new sales development in fast-growing international environments.

A graduate of Al-Balqa Applied University in Jordan, where he received a degree in engineering technology in 2001, he holds an executive accelerated development qualification from Rice University and is a certificated project management professional.

He has occupied positions of increasing seniority in the Middle East, Sub-Saharan Africa, the US and Latin America.

On his new role, Siam said: "Egis is a business which is built on exceptional talent that continues to drive purpose-driven innovation, geared towards creating greater value for clients. We maintain a highly optimistic outlook that in collaboration with our clients we will be able to address their most challenging needs, while adapting to a rapidly evolving market dynamic.

"I am honoured for the opportunity to lead Egis in the Middle East and I look forward to leveraging our position as an industry leader to deliver against our strategic objectives in 2021 and beyond," he added.
