Sharjah, UAE: Hundreds of members of the American University of Sharjah (AUS) Class of Spring 2019 gathered at the university’s Main Building to attend an iftar held in their honor yesterday, May 29.

Addressing the graduates at the iftar, Professor Kevin Mitchell, Acting Chancellor of AUS, congratulated them on their success and said:

“It is always an occasion of immense pride for the university to celebrate the accomplishments of the graduating class. It gives me great pleasure to congratulate you on your achievements and to wish you the very best in all your future endeavors.”

The event, which was organized by the Office of Advancement and Alumni Affairs (OAAA), also saw Charles Diab, Executive Director of OAAA, addressing the Class of Spring 2019. He said:

“We are here today to acknowledge the great work you have done and to honor you with warm congratulations for attaining your AUS degree. You have developed qualities of character and mind to achieve this, and these qualities empower you to seek new opportunities with the confidence that you can contribute, with the knowledge that you are ready, that you can overcome challenges and unexpected setbacks.

“And as we send you on your way to the next steps in your life always remember AUS and the Office of Advancement and Alumni Affairs is your home at AUS,” he added.

Ten outstanding graduates were also recognized for their academic achievements. These were Anna Terekhova, Issam M.I. Alagha, Fatema Maher Husain, Amro (Mohammed Nedal) Dajani, Reem Salim Mahmoud, Siddharth Chopra, Karim Mohammed Tawfique Mohammed Tahir Abdulla Almohtadi, Ja'far Ala Mortadha, Hazem Magdi Sharf and Zeenah Ryad Mansour.

The distribution of class rings concluded the well-attended event.

The AUS Spring 2019 Commencement will be held on Saturday, June 1 at University City Hall, Sharjah, and will be attended by His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member, Ruler of Sharjah and President of AUS. A total of 610 undergraduate and graduate candidates will participate in the ceremony.
