Dubai, UAE - The British University in Dubai kicked off the new academic year with a week of induction welcoming more than 160 new postgraduate students to its campus for orientation. The new students registered in programmes ranging from Business, Finance, Management, Education, Law, to Engineering and IT. More than 50 students were registered in the doctoral programmes while the rest were students pursuing their Masters programmes. In addition, this year BUiD is marking an important milestone, welcoming its first ever cohort of undergraduate students registered in Business and Computer Science programmes including the first programme in Artificial Intelligence in the UAE.

The University’s Vice Chancellor, Professor Abdullah Alshamsi, and BUiD’s Registrar and Chief Administrative Officer, Hugh Martin, greeted the students and gave them an overview of the University’s mission and vision and its unique partnership with leading UK universities.  Furthermore, The Director of the University’s Doctoral Training Centre, Dr Christopher Hill, talked about the support, training and advice that the Centre would be providing students during their years of study.

The Vice Chancellor said, “We mark a new milestone in our development by admitting our first ever undergraduate students. We will help you and support you with all the tools and skills needed to achieve your goals and be successful in life. The University will give you important access to an excellent network of resources that will enrich your learning experience. We are happy to welcome you and wish you the best of luck.”

The Registrar added, “2018/19 marks a special significance to BUiD, not only admitting undergraduates for the first time in our 15 year history but also offering the first joint degrees in the UAE, with the esteemed British universities of Edinburgh and Glasgow. We are very excited to enter this new academic year and to build on the continuing success of BUiD as the region’s top university in its field.”
