Dubai- UAE

In the presence of HE Dr Thani Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, Minister of Climate Change and Environment, and HE Omar bin Sultan Al Olama, Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, The British University in Dubai (BUiD) has held a press conference to announce the launch of its new undergraduate programmes, including the first Bachelors degree in Artificial Intelligence. The press conference was attended by Dr Abdulla Al Karam, Chairman of the Board of Directors and Director General of the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA), and representatives from the Knowledge Fund, Dubai Statistics Centre, and the University’s Council.

BUiD, the leading research-based university in the UAE and the region, has also entered into collaborative agreements with two world-renowned universities in the UK, the University of Edinburgh and the University of Glasgow.

BUiD’s students registered on BSc. Electromechanical or BSc. Industrial Engineering will have the option to study the last two years of their programmes in the UK: at the University of Edinburgh in its Electrical and Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Electrical and Electronics Engineering programmes; at the University of Glasgow in its Mechanical and Aeronautical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electronics and Electrical Engineering , Mechatronics Engineering or Aerospace Systems programmes. By doing so, BUiD’s students can benefit from great associations with these two prestigious universities.

In addition, both Scottish universities will offer the students annual financial support in the form of a scholarship to help them with their education expenses.

BUiD’s Vice Chancellor, Professor Abdullah Al Shamsi, said, “Again BUiD proves its commitment to enhancing the learning experience of its students by exposing them to the best learning institutions in the world. Since its inception, BUiD has realised the tremendous benefits of associating itself with leading UK institutions to bring best practice and the latest knowledge to its students in their respective fields. In addition, we would like to express our ongoing gratitude to the Knowledge Fund and the ICT Fund for their continuous support for the University. “

The University of Edinburgh was founded in 1583 and it is one of the world's top universities.  It is globally recognised for its research, development and innovation.

Professor Mona Siddiqui, International Dean for the Middle East at the University of Edinburgh said, `We are delighted to be entering this new strengthened phase of collaboration with BUiD and look forward to welcoming students whose learning experience will be enriched by their studies here. It is very pleasing to see how BUiD is going from strength to strength."

The University of Glasgow was established in 1451 and it one of the world’s top universities.

Professor James Conroy, Vice Principal, Internationalisation, said, “on behalf of the University of Glasgow, I am very pleased indeed to see our partnership and collaboration with BUiD mature and flourish. We very much believe that together we can offer exciting new programmes and research that will enhance the reputation of both institutions as leaders in education. It is a pleasure to work with such committed and collegial friends as we have in BUiD.”

Both universities are members of the prestigious Russell Group that represents 24 leading UK universities. The Group is committed to maintaining the very best research, an outstanding teaching and learning experience, and unrivalled links with business and the public sector.

These programmes are not the first to build on this tradition as BUiD already collaborates with Cardiff University, the University of Edinburgh, the University of Glasgow, and the University of Manchester within a concordat agreement that provides a comprehensive framework for the strategic directions and governance of the UK Universities/BUiD alliance.
