The first of the new water homes planned for Dubai Properties' Marasi Business Bay project has been floated to its final destination along the Dubai canal.

The homes form part of a 1 billion UAE dirham ($272.216 million) project unveiled by Dubai Properties in June last year. The phased development is set to feature up to 200 water homes, as well as floating restaurants, five new marinas containing a total of 800 berths, shops and beach clubs, among other facilities.

Dubai Properties said that the first of these floating homes arrived at its destination on Monday and that more are set to follow over the next few days. The developer awarded a contract to Finnish specialist Admares for ten floating homes in October last year. These were built in Finland and have been delivered by water to the Marassi Business Bay site.

Phase one of Marassi Business Bay has also included the construction of a 12km-long boardwalk along the banks of the Dubai canal.

Last month, Business Bay was voted in fifth place in a ranking of the top 10 neighbourhoods in the world by travel publication Lonely Planet.
