FRANKFURT- German wind turbine maker Nordex has suspended production at its Spanish factories, it said on Wednesday, responding to a lockdown in the country aimed at containing the spread of the coronavirus.

Production at the group's nacelle casing factories in Barasoain and Vall d'Uixo as well as at the rotor blade site in Lumbier has been suspended, a spokeswoman for the company said.

"Production is no longer active," the spokeswoman said in response to a Reuters query.

The move takes the number of idled wind power factories in Europe to 15, as the impact of the pandemic reaches the renewables sector.

Nordex's comments show the speed at which the coronavirus is impacting supply chains across Europe, with CEO Jose Luis Blanco saying only last week there had been limited impact on the company.
