The leading entities hosted the FIRST ‘Joint Clinical Grand Round’ to facilitate knowledge-sharing and best practices

UAE, Sharjah: Inspired by the vision of HH Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah in promoting education for the young generation, University Hospital Sharjah (UHS) in association with the Medical College of Medicine at University of Sharjah (UOS) hosted their first ‘Joint Clinical Grand Round’ - a strategic forum that promotes academic and educational cooperation between the hospital and the college.

The launch event, was held on 20th September at the main auditorium of UHS, and graced by Dr. Ali Obaid Al Ali, CEO and Member of Board of Trustees at UHS, Prof. Mohamed Saleh Al-Hajjaj, Chair of Clinical Sciences Department in the Medical College and Professor of Medicine and Pulmonary Diseases., UOS, Dr. Mohamed Seif, Head of Internal Medicine Department, Senior Consultant Cardiologist and other doctors, staff and students. The pioneer initiative will be a monthly ongoing program to facilitate exchange of knowledge and expertise.

“University Hospital Sharjah has always been committed to providing world class healthcare to its patients, which is in line with the directives of our wise leadership; and with the introduction of this new initiative, we aim to open new frontiers for the medical students that will enhance their clinical skills & knowledge, through programmes benchmarked against international best practices. This will also provide them an opportunity to interact with the physicians personally,” said Dr. Ali Obaid Al Ali, CEO and Member of Board of Trustees at UHS.

“It is indeed a pleasure to be able to initiate this noble initiative. A well-rounded medical education is the foundation for successful career, and we are glad that we had this opportunity to support knowledge sharing that will not only foster the growth of the aspiring medical professionals, but also increase the number of home-grown talents in the country,” said Prof. Qutayba Hamid, Dean College of Medicine University of Sharjah.

The University of Sharjah College of Medicine strives for national and international prominence by differentiating itself through excellence, in the full spectrum of medical education at the undergraduate, postgraduate and continuing professional development levels.

“It was a great opportunity to be a part of an event like this. While the strategic forum sharpened our medical skills, it also offered us an opportunity to indulge in strategic discussion and knowledge-sharing,” said Aisha Ali Alkhader, a student of Medical College at University of Sharjah.

With a primary objective to serve as a knowledge compendium and promote interaction and collaboration between students of UOS and doctors of UHS, the launch event facilitated exchange of knowledge, expertise and best practices. It witnessed the presence of more than 150 students and shed light on varied topics including Differential diagnosis of intra cerebral space occupying lesions, Radiological evaluation of CT brain & brain MRI, Causes of recurrent urinary tract infections, Histopathology assessment and much more.
