Dubai, United Arab Emirates: Emirates authority for Standardisation & metrology – ESMA, has announced, Monday, that it extended the deadline time limit for vehicle manufacturers, suppliers and dealers of vehicle spare parts in the UAE for three months. Till the beginning of 2019, instead of October 2018, In order to reconcile the situation with the new UAE technical regulation.

The UAE system for the control of vehicle spare parts, was issued last April, by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai & after it was approved by the UAE Cabinet.

HE Abdullah Al Maeeni, Director General of (ESMA), said that on the sidelines of organizing of a training workshop aimed at the inspection and control bodies in the UAE.

The system granted two periods for producers and traders, the first six months for spare parts not yet put on the market, and a full year for spare parts currently available in the country's markets. He added.

During the workshop, which was attended by more than 250 officials, concerned parties, Al Maeeni stressed the importance of registering vehicles spare parts within the Emirati system.

He said:  the development of this system aims to regulate the transport sector and vehicles in a comprehensive and integrated way, to support the safety of passengers and vehicles on UAE roads, to reduce road accidents resulting from the use of passengers for defective or poor parts.

The system focuses on providing the highest efficiency for basic parts, Such as brakes and the transmission arm, as well as spare parts for the electrical system and lighting units, as well as ventilation units and other fans.

National Agenda

H.E Al Maeeni, pointed out that the continuous development of technical regulations is in line with the National Agenda 2021 and the UAE Government's action plans, particularly in terms of infrastructure.

The development of the system aims to improve the quality of spare parts used in local markets and ensure that they conform to UAE standards in a way that ensures the protection of consumers and their rights from counterfeit and defective items.

This is in line with the vision and strategy of ESMA to lead in building confidence in products and quality systems. To raise the quality of products and systems to support sustainable development and enhance the quality of life and the status of the UAE as a global economic center.

Certificate of conformity

ESMA will not allow the beginning of next year to import, manufacture or use spare parts without a certificate of conformity from ESMA, in any place for repair, especially car repair workshops and garages, after the implementation of the new system.

The development of the UAE system for vehicle spare parts was based on specialized studies carried out by ESMA technical team in coordination and integration with the concerned authorities in the federal and local government.

The workshop will also raise the awareness of the inspection and control bodies of the system in order to start the implementation of intensive control campaigns on the markets to ensure compliance of traders and suppliers, after the entry into force of the system at the beginning of next year.
