Saudi Arabia has signed new agreements for housing projects in the Southern Jazan province within an ongoing national programme to build homes for its citizens, a newspaper reported on Sunday.

The agreements signed by the Housing Ministry with a number of developers and contractors include infrastructure projects in eight new housing sites with a total area of around 221 million square metres, the Arabic language daily Alriyadh said.

Two other projects under construction in Jazan include Sarh Al Taqnia which comprise 4,170 villas, and Safwa Garden with 777 apartments, the paper said.

Saudi Arabia, with a population of nearly 32 million, has signed scores of agreements with local and foreign developers over the past few years to construct houses for citizens within a partnership programme with the private sector.
