Emirati job-seekers on Sunday trooped to Sharjah Expo Centre where the 22nd National Career Exhibition opened with the participation of more than 50 public and private institutions.

Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, officially opened the career fair, which will be held till tomorrow.

The emirate's Crown Prince then toured the exhibition and explored the opportunities and training programmes offered to Emirati citizens and graduates.

Held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, the event was organised by the Expo Centre, in cooperation with the Emirates Institute for Banking and Financial Studies (EIBFS) and Directorate of Sharjah Human Resources (DHR), with the support of the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI).

Abdullah Sultan Al Owais, chairman of the SCCI, said the event emphasises Emiratis' capabilities to lead and contribute to economic development.

"This underlines that the employment of Emirati citizens and unleashing their capabilities is a top priority for wise leadership.

"This also indicates that the UAE is on the right track, developing human capital with the best modern skills and knowledge," he said.

Dr Tariq Sultan bin Khadem, head of the Directorate of Human Resources, said the exhibition forms a link between public and private employers and competent jobseekers.

"It is a precious opportunity for Emirati job-seekers to achieve their aspirations and support the development process of the country," said Bin Khadem.

8,000 jobs in financial sectors

For Jamal Al Jassmi, general manager of EIBFS, the three-day event brings Sharjah closer to the strategic goal of providing 8,000 jobs in the financial and insurance sectors.

Al Jassmi also lauded the efforts made by the Central Bank of the UAE, the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, UAE Banks Federation, the Insurance Authority, the Banking Institute, banks, and insurance companies to raise the rates of Emiratisation in the sector.

He said the banking sector is leading the economic area in terms of employing citizens, recording a total of 9,418 Emiratis working in banks and financial institutions.

Banks with highest rates of Emiratisation were honoured, along with the winners of Human Resources Development Award.
