Oman Electricity Transmission Company (OETC) inaugurated the Ibri 400/220kV main station. The ceremony was held under the patronage of H E Dr Sheikh Khalaf bin Salim al Ishaqi, Wali of Ibri in the presence of the executive management of OETC, Nama Group and high dignitaries from the local community.

The Ibri main station is one of the key projects implemented in the sultanate at a total cost of RO64mn. Construction works of the station have been divided into two parts where the first part was concerned with constructing Ibri 400kV grid station at a total cost of RO23mn.

The second part of the project entailed building a double transmission line connecting new Ibri 400kV grid station with existing Izki 400kV station.

These transmission lines are among the longest 400kV power transmission lines in the sultanate and were awarded at a total cost of RO41mn. All construction works under this project have been completed and the station as well as power transmission lines have been successfully commissioned by the fourth quarter of this year.

This project will enable OETC to enhance its transmission capabilities of the power produced from the 146MW power generation station in Ibri to Izki 400kV station, Sur 400kV station in addition to Al Misfah 400kV station.

Moreover, OETC will be able to utilise the power to be generated from future solar generation station to feed other governorates in the sultanate using Ibri station and the new power transmission lines.

Ibri 400kV grid station and power transmission lines will enhance OETC power transmission infrastructure and will give extra impetus to the company as it plans to link north Oman with Muscat through 400kV station in Sohar with Rusayl and the new 400kV grid stations to be built in north Oman.

Commenting on the inauguration of this project, Eng Ali bin Said al Hadabi, chief executive officer of Oman Electricity Transmission Company, said, “We are proud to inaugurate this project which is of high national importance and forms part of the main power grid and sustainable development movement that the sultanate is witnessing.”
