The UAE has injected up to AED 85 billion ($23.16 billion) in investments in the aviation infrastructure.

The Gulf country's aviation investments will contribute to developing its four national carriers by increasing their fleet by 502 aircraft in a bid to serve more than 75 million passengers per year.

The total capacity of the UAE airports is expected to grow to 300 million passengers per annum, according to Arabian Business.

The UAE will allocate around AED 29.38 billion ($8 billion) for developing Al Maktoum International Airport, AED 27.91 billion ($7.6 billion) for expanding the sixth phase of Dubai International Airport, it added.

Furthermore, the wealthy Arab nation will allocate AED 24.98 billion ($6.8 billion) for the re-development of Abu Dhabi International Airport, in addition to AED 1.469 billion ($400 million) for the expansion of Sharjah International Airport’s terminal.

“We anticipate accommodating 118 million passengers by 2023 at the Dubai International Airport, and 120 million passengers upon completion of phase two of the Dubai World Central, and 200 million passengers upon its completion,” Saif Mohammed Al Suwaidi, director-general of the UAE General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), commented.

It is worth noting that Dubai will host the first Global Investment in Aviation Summit (GIAS) that will take place on 19-27 January 2019.
