Dubai - Abu Dhabi's sea-side mall is going in for a transformation. The Marina Mall and its immediate areas will be part of a Dh3 billion plus expansion, which will also see a new waterfront promenade.

According to the mall's owner, National Investment Corp., the project will start in the second-half of next year. It will entail work across 300,000 square metres. A "series of upgrades" to the existing mall commences early 2018.

There will also be a building entirely set aside for F&B offerings. “There is no dispute that Marina Mall’s location is unparalleled in Abu Dhabi as it is one of the iconic sites of the capital and this has been one of the key reasons for our continued success," said Rami Chehabeddine, Chief Investment Officer at NIC. "These new plans will allow us to rejuvenate and heighten the experience we offer."

The new promenade, Marina Walk, will offer 546-meters of prime waterfront views and 123,000 square metres of leisure and entertainment experiences, including Abu Dhabi’s first skate park.

The Marina Walk’s 19,500 square metres of leasable area will also host a dining precinct featuring a "restaurant tower".

“By adding to the incredible mix of shopping, dining and entertainment options, we will reinforce our position as the destination of choice for people and families of all ages,” said Chehabeddine.

The Marina Mall extension will begin with the South Block, and will include a "brand new residential tower". In addition to the expansion plans, existing features within the current mall will also be upgraded, including introducing LED screens, renovating current store-front fixtures to open up the space.
