The 5th edition of the four-day Al Dhaid Date Festival, organised by the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce & Industry (SCCI), kicks off on July 22, 2021 at Expo Al Dhaid with prizes worth AED1.5 million ($408,386) up for grabs.

This year's festival, which will see the participation of dozens of palm growers from Sharjah and other emirates of the UAE, is expected to showcase a variety of activities and contests between palm owners and farmers who will display various types of dates of 2021 production.

Prizes for the winners will be ranging from AED2,000 to AED30,000, for a total prize money of AED1.5 million. This rise in the value of the prizes is attributed to the SCCI's keenness to support palm owners and farmers, develop dates-based local industries, and raise the quality of Emirati products, a statement from the organisers said.

This year's edition will have two new categories, one for the local mango and the other for yellow and red figs, in addition to other categories.

The conditions for entering the competitions stipulate that the dates must be locally produced. All contestants should show up with their documents upon registration, swear an oath, and visit some farms.-TradeArabia News Service
