The main construction contract for the $90 million first phase of Oman's first bus manufacturing plant will be signed this month, a source aware of the details told Thomson Reuters Projects.

"The decision (on the award) has been taken and the construction contract is expected to be signed this month", the source said but declined to reveal the name of the contractor.

In July 2019, Thomson Reuters Projects had reported that the contract award has been pushed back several times since September 2018.

The foundation stone for the $415 million project, located on a 500,000 square metre (sqm) site in Duqm Special Economic Zone, was laid on 30 November 2017.

Karwa Motors is a joint venture owned 70 percent by Mowasalat Qatar and 30 percent by Oman Investment Fund (OIF).
