MANAMA: The total number of employees in the financial sector in 2018 amounted to 14,148 compared with 14,093 at the end of 2017, an increase of 55 jobs, according to the annual survey conducted by the Central Bank of Bahrain (CBB).

The employment in the non-bank financial sector (comprising insurance firms, money changers, financing companies, investment business firms, and other non-bank financial institutions) increased by 109 jobs, taking the number to 6,303 employees at end-2018 compared with 6,194 at end-2017.

The number of employees in the supporting institutions increased from 452 employees at the end of 2017 to 466 at the end of 2018, while the number of employees in the banking sector decreased from 7,447 at end-2017 to 7,379 at end-2018.

The survey revealed that the Bahraini workforce employed by the financial services sector reached 9,285 in 2018, an increase of 37 jobs.

Total Bahraini workforce represented 65.6 per cent of total workforce in the financial sector. The proportion of Bahraini women is 39pc of total Bahraini workforce under the financial sector compared with 38pc registered at end-2017.

Total number of Bahraini women in the financial sector increased by 79 jobs or by 2.2pc, it reached 3,621 at end-2018 compared with 3,542 at end-2017.

Additionally, the proportion of Bahraini women with managerial positions is 33.2pc of total Bahraini managerial positions under the financial sector at end-2018, an increase from 32.2pc at end-2017.

The number of Bahrainis (male and female) holding senior management positions (including CEOs, executives, directors and assistant directors) reached 3,156 at the end of 2018. The number of Bahrainis holding supervisory positions was 1,839 in the same year.

The number of Bahraini board members of financial institutions reached 409 at end-2018 (47pc of the total), of which 377 were Bahraini males and 32 Bahraini women.
