Cairo – The Egyptian minister of international cooperation Rania Al-Mashat has met representatives from the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED) to follow up on projects financed by the Kuwaiti fund under the second phase of Sinai development programme.

KFAED has financed a number of developmental projects in Sinai at a total value of $1.1 billion, including projects in East Port Said, Dahab, and Ras Sidr, Al-Mashat said in a statement on Tuesday.

Work is underway in establishing a seawater desalination project East Port Said, which secured a $182 million funding from KFAED.

The desalination plant is designed to meet the rising demand for potable water in the new city being built in East Port Said.

Moreover, KFAED has also financed wastewater treatment plant in Bahr El-Baqar, set to be the largest sewage water treatment plant in the world.

The new plant is expected to generate 5 million cubic metres per day for the cultivation of about 330,000 feddans in East Port Said.
