Iraq has approved around 130 billion Iraqi dinars ($110 million) for the construction of new schools in the Northern Nineveh governorate, the local media said on Wednesday.

The projects include the building of several new schools, expansion of existing facilities and the construction of other education centres in the governorate, Aliqtisad News network said, quoting Nineveh's governor Mansour Al-Mareid.

He said the new projects are part of plans to develop the education sector in the governorate to accommodate the growing number of citizens, adding that Nineveh has suffered from school shortages over the past years.

"We have been allocated 130 billion dinars for a number of projects that involve building schools and other facilities," Mareid said.
